Last Gasp is more than just a collection of talented artists. It’s a feeling. A movement. A way of life.
Through a medley of Hip Hop, Jazz, Gospel, and R&B, their raw performances have captivated many crowds in the Midwest such as Grand Rapids, Marquette, Allouez, Traverse City, Indianapolis, Columbus, Cincinnati, and many more. Last Gasp stands for promoting a collaborative spirit. This collaborative spirit has allowed them opportunities to share the stage with acts such as Nappy Roots, Bus Driver, The Go Rounds, Guilty Simpson, Shamar Alef, J. Robb., Yolonda Lavender and DC of Truth Tone.
Originating from the “Small Town” of Kalamazoo, the diverse group has been brought together by a mutual love of art. Their live arrangements are reminiscent of The Internet, The Roots, and Hiatus Kaiyote where melodic cello or saxophone lines, fuzzed out guitar lead, and gospel piano set a beautiful soundscape underneath the soulful voices and poetic lyricism of Nezi, Jessica Ivey, and Jay Jackson. As this group continues to debunk stereotypes one melody at a time, their music continues to touch the hearts of people from all walks of life.
"So pay your dues my brother. Cuz' life is short time is all you got to loose my brotha'. So be smart, play your part. aint got to be the biggest, long as you've got some heart!
